My brother has decided he wants a new computer. He doesn't do much, besides surf the internet, listen to some MP3's, online poker, and work stuff, he does auditing for a accounting place, doesn't do hardcore gaming at all The kicker is that he is cheap. He wants to spend about 600 total on the whole machine. I think it is possible.
Being that Intel >> AMD right now, I chose this: Cheapset C2D processor. http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.asp?item=N82E16819115014

I need to figure out a decent mobo for it. OT, help me out. I have the next couple of weeks to get some parts together.
    Danke.

purchasing a gigabyte mobo for an Intel CPU is like using Penzoil in a BMW M5.

    It's disrespect.

Well being that your brother is not doing any hardcore gaming, when is "Intel >> AMD":rolleyes::rolleyes: & since you want to go cheap, AMD pretty much rules in all the other benchmarks and will do you fine..

    $65 and since when a dual core 2.0ghz 1mb L2 65w chip a bad thing

This thing will still play games plenty fine

EDIT: is 4ghz too slow for you bro?:ugh:

Actually, quite true. It really doesn't matter. He wants to try to stay about 600, with cheapy speaks and cheapy mouse/keyboard. He just wants a decent computer. I think anything would be a decent step up from the AMD 1500 with 512mb of ram.
So, I am open to suggestions. If I was to get that chip, what kinda mobo? Most of my questions are within motherboards because I have been outta the loop with what ones are decent.

Goto the bottom of that CPU page. They have a MOBO combo for $110  That'll work just fine and everything is built onboard.

    $50 case/w PS
    $60 HD
    $40 new mouse/keyboard

He's right that the Intel is the "best" board.

But the Gigabyte is an exceptional board that will give you no problems.

If you are sure you don't want to overclock, get the Intel.

If you might overclock, then get the Gigabyte.

This Intel board has the onboard GMA X3000 graphics.

I have the same thing in a micro atx Intel board, and it runs perfect.
Directx10 capable, and can handle HD video content with ease.

but of course. Logic dictates that if Intel designed the CPU, they knew what they were doing to interface with it.

Thankfully, practical application has proven that theory, and Intel DOES make the bet mobos for their chips.
