Sorry if this is a repost, but I'm wondering your opinions on these Romanian AKs at this guy's website: http://www.classicarms.us/

Some of em are put together from parts kits, a couple are supposedly the export-only civilian use Romanian made weapons of a few years ago, and some were supposedly made for police or military use.

There's better AKs out there, but what about for this price? Will these appreciate enough in coming years to warrant a purchase or two? Or is it better to save money and invest in an AK that is more "official" ?

The price on the tantals is ok, along with the romy g kits built on nodak receivers, the WASR's are priced a little high. I don't see the romy ones appreciating to much unless theirs another AWB, theres already a shit ton of rommy ak's and kits in the U.S. Tantal is the best buy there IMO.

I realize some of the prices aren't all that great, as you can find these at some stores for $369 or less, rather than a somewhat loony website. How awesome is the random softball news littered throughout? So ridiculous

Taking to the range in the next day or two.

Pick on day I picked it up:

you can always buy a saiga and convert it for pretty cheap if you're inclined to so.

this is on the top of the guys home page too if anyone cares to read it. anyone else have opinions on it?

I know a company recently bought AK building equipment from China. The business is suppose to be starting production late this spring or early summer IIRC. Hopefully we'll see more things like this happen. I do know that AKs are a big enough market that when the kits run dry, someone will make a fair amount of money being the only supplier of new AK parts.

I was under the impression that there was another guy who actually had China's old machinery and whatnot. There was a website that was different from Norinco USA I though but perhaps I'm wrong.

Either way it most likely will be a year or two if it ever happens.

Oh, maybe didn't hear about anyone other then norinco usa.
This is whats up on Norinco USA's site now

I would like to introduce myself and explain about NORINCO-USA. I am Jon W. Morgan MSgt USMC (RET). My wife and I started C.J. Weapons about 17 years ago (www.cjweapons.com). I was still in the Marine Corps at the time and living in Southern California. Due to the anti-gunners and their laws we moved to Jefferson City, Missouri. While we were both running this business, and for the past two years, I have been working overseas in Afghanistan as an independent contractor.

We wanted to start manufacturing guns but didn't want to make M-4's like everyone else in the U.S. Instead, I wanted to make M14's and AK's. After a lot of research I found out that NORINCO, due to the 1994 ban and Clinton's and Bush's Executive orders, cannot sell anything weapons-related in the U.S. They even cancelled their Trademarks in the U.S. I have applied for the NORINCO-USA Mark for weapons Manufacturing. You can see that over the next few years we will be manufacturing many items. Eventually, we hope to be making all of the Norinco weapons, mags, and parts here in the U.S.

We have tried to get the original machines and dies but, due to the fact that they are all 50 to 60 years old, they are not worth bringing in. Please keep an eye on our Web Site. We will be selling U.S.-made parts for the weapons as they come on line. In the near future we will also be selling the firearms themselves.

I keep thinking the same thing, but another part of me suspects that once 5.45 surplus dries up, it will end up more expensive than the 7.62.

I'll probably just put plastic furniture on my WASR and make it a -103 clone.

If you're looking to build a kit, DS Arms has Romy G kits w/ all matching numbers for $150 + shipping. I got one in yesterday and it's good bang for the buck.

    Two questions:

    1. Are these genuine Kalashnikovs, not just cheap knockoffs?

    2. Is it legal (not just ambiguous) to import a full-auto assault rifle into the US?

Well the romy's are direct copys of the soviet AKM, but they are rather cheap as far as the fit and finish goes, if you want genuine get a SAIGA they're made in mother russia.

Not legal to import or convert semis to full auto unless your dealer.

I thought so. Of course, if you never fire it in full-auto mode, nobody will ever know...
