I've only played around a little bit with other shooters red dot sights. I think I'd like to try mounting one to my .22 handgun to make it a little more fun to shoot again. I'd like to go pretty cheap since this is just a horsing around at 25 yards max gun, if it breaks no big deal. We're talking like $40 here max.

The only problem is that it can't have an integrated mount. Most of the cheap sights I see have it integrated. My 22A doesn't have many slots cut in the rail so I'll need seperate rings. Any advice on what I should get is appreciated.

  4. You can find lots of cheap knockoff red dot sights on ebay. I've also seen similar sights in the larger sporting goods chain stores.

My Tasco 40mm (I think?) red dot worked good on my 22/45. Bright enough for daytime shooting and light. I think it was like $30 shipped from optics planet.

Ended up taking it off though because I like irons better. I'd go with a smaller tube diameter, 40mm was pretty big.

Has anyone tried one of these? http://www.midwayusa.com/eproductpage.exe/showproduct?saleitemid=399922&t=11082005 Looks like it might be a little less cluttered looking on top of a handgun.

 at some of the reviews

I have one of those. Was using it on a 9mm AR-15. The sight held up fine, but the reticle gets washed out in bright sun light. Works fine indoors. I also don't like the fact that it uses a coin cell battery.
