Just wondering, I'm estimating ill hit 200 pounds up from 170 in about two to three weeks.

When cutting, should i alter my "bulking" routine if you will?

My workouts currently are all centered around my big lifts being 5X5. Ie Deadlift, squat, bench, shoulder press, etc.

Should i alter my routine from this while cutting due to the lower amount of energy levels when cutting? I mean, i shouldnt' be able to go as intense at the gym as i was before.

edit: will obviously be throwing in some cardio three times a week.

usually you reduce volume proportionate to how hard you're dieting.

I'll be dropping cals from about 4000 to day to about 2400. :dunno: I guess I should drop volume in the same proportion?

Yep, you need to account for the reduced nutrient/energy intake, as well as the energy you are expending doing cardio. What is your routine right now?

Also it's not a bad idea to change up your routine to focus on heavy strength movements.... similar to a powerlifting routine, but not as demanding.

Unless you're doing multiple daily workouts right now, I think cutting out almost half the workload is more than a bit extreme. You need to post your routine if you want any real advice.

Here's what I would do. First, try doing your routine unchanged while dieting. If you find you can't do it, then the first thing I would do would be either cut out half of your bi/tri day or maybe even drop it entirely. If you're not having any problems completing it now, one extra rest day gained should be more than enough when dieting. But yes, I agree that you should be able to do it exactly as you have now with very few problems.

Agreed, I didn't mean you have to cut your volume in half if you cut your calories in half. More like the more severe your deficit, the more you have to drop volume. Not "I'm taking in 75% of the calories I was before, so my volume is now 75%". It's not a 1 to 1 relationship.

Try something and see what happens. I couldn't keep doing my same routine once i started really limiting calories, but i didn't have to change much. You could be completely different.

Just over 27" taken on an emptry stomach first thing in the morning. Over 28" at this moment.
Usually to keep it consistent I take most measurements first thing in the morning before eating or working out.
