Apparently someong hit my GF's car and messed up the door to the point that she needs to have it replaced. How difficult is it to replace one of these doors? Is it worth the hassle of doing it ourselves or should we just go ahead and let the mechanic do it?

Not too hard, just takes a while to line up the door and striker correctly.

On the car the doors are the hardest to replace. 2 door car doors are even harder because of weight.

If you haven't done it before or at least hung a hood to trunk lid that requires major alignment work to make sure its not locked tight forever (haha I know someone that just bolted it on, shut the hood and it was on tight because it was not aligned properly, hahaha) then have a shop just do it for her. You will feel foolish if you mess it up in front of a lady none the less.
