I was wondering if anyone uses either, and how they feel it benefits their workouts. I am |-| close to going to home depot and buying 2 12' pieces of heavy chain (would weigh ~35 pounds single hung, and ~75 pounds double, ~50$). Possibly comparing that to say band training for roughly the same dollar value. What say you?

yeah, but it should only be used once you have perfect form, and have exhauisted other means to overcoming these sticking points. I doubt anyone on this forum is at that level, maybee when one comes close to totaling elite this would eb a possiblity.
Hot damn is not at the level wher ehe needs to use bands or chains, unless he is using them for a tightness issue.

I am giving you advice that has been given to me by Elite level powerlifters, Including Jim wendler, Chuck Vogelpohl, and others. There is just not a reason to use them, the gains will nto eb that much better, more especially when the weakness is your wentire body, and not just one area. Call up louie, he will probably say the same thing...
you are not at the point where you need this.

i take it by the reference to elite lifts, you mean that its not something that will be changing within +50 pounds of my current lifts - more like +200?

I don't plan on using any until I get my squat/dead over 600 and bench over 400

So you are saying that someone who can barely bench over 200 should jump onto using bands and chains? No offense hotdamn, but they aren't necessary. Work on maximizing the bar weight first. When you get to a point where you feel that your technique is on and you haven't made progress, try some chains.

However, on a side note, Tate does use bands in order to help teach someone who is learning how to squat to learn what being tight is all about. The only problem with that, it's easy to stay tight with bands, but it still has to transfer over to the regular squat without bands

I realize all this it would just be marginal and I need to get my base strength up bit, especially since my numbers are pretty weak, but all I was after in this thread was seeing if (even marginally) it would do me some good. It seems that answer is no.

And btw, I do feel that my technique is good -- my size is alot bigger than my numbers indicate and I'm not sure why. I don't have a partner that is interested in learning or helping me; he believes my goal in the gym is to guide both me and him.

I've used bands and chains with bench, squat and dead, and its really not too much more effective at an intermediate lifter (been lifting 6 years, powerlifting 6 months) than straight weight. Until you get to a level where you are plateauing with straight weight which is years for most people then its best to just stay naked. The idea is the exhaust simpler means and then moved onto more advanced ones when absolutely necessary. If you were to start out using chains and bands once you hit a plateau with those what would you change to? Just focusing on being more explosive and fast with straight weight will be all you need for quite a while

exactly. i've been doing powerlifting training for about 6-8months and i asked the pl that i train with whether i should buy bands and chains. he's like no..."if it takes bands and chains to get you to a 400 squat...what's it gonna take to get you to 500?" (i'm at a 360 squat)
