Stuck with a t-mobile phone through work (blackberry 8700G) and I'm SO extremely disappointed with EDGE service; especially having come from Verizon's EVDO. I miss VZW so bad..

Will T-Mo's service ever get better? 3G someday perhaps? :noes::x:

EDGE would not be a logical step for them since 4g is already being developed.
    3g possibly, but not EDGE

Not sure. I used to work for them and the idea was that Data customers made up such a small percentage of customers that it wasn't a priority

Yeah. They figured they would let all the other companies launch their data networks, and spend the money trying to get everything running smoothly, then eventually launch their own after the kinks had been worked out by everyone else.

Probably not, they only have about 20-22 mhz of spectrum and it's on lease from AT&T. However in about 5yrs AT&T will pwn Verizon and everyone with speeds of 1mb+ on hsdpa and hsupa

Plus, Tmob is putting an emphasis on voice right now. They are testing a new voice system in a few large markets in the next few weeks. Data is riding pine right now

Pretty sad. Voice is important and all but data is growing by leaps and bounds every single day. How could the not implement SOME sort of 3g?

and pretty I'm sure HSUPA will be here way before 5 years :ugh2:
That and verizon will do whatever it takes to stay within the top 3, no matter the cost. Nobody is ever going to "own" anyone in the cell industry, unless its t-mo getting owned by others data networks :mamoru:

Oh, you mean the speads that Sprint and Verizon ALREADY EXCEED with EVDO Rev. A?

Xohm will fill gaps for other needs.

I think Tmob is making a mistake by not paying more attention to their data networks. They are just trying way too hard for voice, with the Wifi thing and with the new voice network they are launching.

Plus, an average data user brings in far more than a regular voice user.

HSUPA is already being tested in atlanta, will roll out soon. HSDPA already out

They have a small jump but CDMA is a shrinking market. Don't buy for right now invest in the future.

Tmobile is bypassing "3G" and going to 3.5 or 4G technology. They are relatively small in the US and have been building up tower support (including upgrading hardware)........ "supposably".

Then why are the #2 (Verizon Wireless) and #3 (Sprint PCS) largest wireless carriers in the United States exclusively CDMA with no vocal intentions of leaving? To reinforce this, both are spending extensively on rollouts of EVDO Rev A, as well as future CDMA-based technologies? Sprint is also (arguably) the most MVNO-friendly provider, and agressively markets their services to those interested in operating as MVNOs. CDMA also provides the best call quality, and fastest data transfer rates.

In fact, at a national level, CDMA is the growing technology.

UMTS is AT&T's implementation of 3G data. Opposed to EVDO, which is Verizon/Sprint's implementation of 3G data.

Overall it's approximately 300Kbps average with a peak around 750Kbps.

Sprint will sustain around 1.2Mbps with a peak around 3-4Mbps. Verizon will sustain 800Kbps with a peak around 2Mbps.
