Hey guys need to get a system for work. Will mainly be used for surfing the internet, and some programs that will be forced to run on office 97.

    Here are the 2 setups

AMD XP 2500+ system (random computer shop I deal with, no brand name)

    Midi 350 watt w/front USB
    Asus A7V8X-MX Mother board
    256MB DDR Ram Memory
    Maxtor 40GB 7200 Hard Drive
    32MB AGP integrated 3D Video
    52 x CD Rom
    3D Sound integrated
    100 watt speakers, Win98 keyboard
    Mouse, Pad
    10/100 integrated Ethernet Card

    Dell Dimension 3000
    Celeron D320 (2.4ghz, 533 FSB)
    XP Home
    256 mb ram
    80gb hd
    52x cd rom
    integrated graphics
    speakers
    keyboard
    etc.

The XP system is about $50cdn more including everything (shipping etc.) What do you guys think would be the better system? I would probably upgrade the system to 512mb ram after buying it as well.

if all your using is webbrowsing and office 97, then a 500mhz proc will do what you want.

To answer your question, the 2500+ would be better. The Celeron is pretty slow and people buy it because they think the GHz rating is the only thing that makes a computer fast. It's on the same level as a 1.6 Duron. http://www.anandtech.com/cpuchipsets/showdoc.aspx?i=1927&p=2

That said, you could go either way since it's just for web browsing and basic apps. That's kind of what the Celeron is aimed at anyway.

:werd: Either would be fine, but for an extra 50 bucks, I'd say it's worthwhile to go with the AMD system.
