Are there such things as CD-Rs that are over 700MB each? If so, where is the best place to buy them? Any brand recommendations?

if you have a big need for them, plextor makes a drive that can squeeze 1gb onto a 700mb cd. the plexwriter premium.

Can I store normal files (like word documents, etc.) on a DVD? I'm new to buring stuff, so I'm curious.

yes you can burn data to DVDs

I know of a place you can get 900meg CDRs, I just can't remember what the url is off hand. Plus I'm not sure how much I trust them, last I check they are basicly no-name brands.

Keep in mind your CDR MUST be able to write to them. My old 2x can't even write to 700 MB CDs

there are 800mb cds available through yahoo stores. china has had them for years. also, the optorite dvd burner has the ability to do a 'hd burn', where a cdr can hold 1.4gb, but is only readable in an hd compatible drive (right now, optorite burners). technology by samsung

I have some CDRs that will hold 90 minutes of music and something like 740mb or so. I got them at a computer show, but I think you can find them on newegg.com and a couple other places. Just have to look around.
