MY old home pc is refusing to burn cd's lately. it starts the burn and no matter what program I use, the same errors come up. It's an older hp computer running windows xp.

the following 2 errors come up:
    E8004139: ID Dispatch Error # 4501
    E80070057: The Parameter is Incorrect

wtf does this mean? I need music in my life

Errors can be a real bitch when it comes to diagnosing a hardware problem.
Mainly because there are probably thousands if not tens of thousands of unique errors that can happen.

Chances are that it's the burner, and there are some absolute terrific deals right now on superb burners for under $35 shipped.

Upgrade your software, I've seen this issue before with Roxio and an upgrade worked. Try burning something else as well, if it's not sampled right you can get those errors.

Otherwise, make sure that your transfer mode is set correct for that drive/interface controller.. that you don't have duplicate installs of controllers.. etc. Uninstall the interface controller and drive if you ahve to, restart.

That was my first thought as well. But thread starter said this is on his "old pc at home".
That sounds like a good time to get a good dvd burner anyway.

ive tried many different cd's, types of cd's, and programs....every time the burn stops about 30 seconds into it and the error messages apply.

    link to cheap burners?
