Three Men Killed in Winnemucca Shooting on Sunday

Deputies with the Humboldt County Sheriff's Office are investigating a shooting in Winnemucca early Sunday morning that left three people dead and others injured.

The shooting happened at the Player's Bar & Grill on South Grass Valley Road.

Investigators say a feud between two local families is behind the early-morning shooting inside the bar. Three men from Winnemucca died from gunshot wounds, and two others are in critical condition at the hospital.

Deputies say about 2:25 a.m., 30-year-old Ernesto Villa Gomez walked into the bar and starting shooting. 20-year-old Jose Torres and his 19-year-old brother Margarito Torres were killed. When Villa Gomez was reloading his semi-automatic gun, a man from Reno took out a gun and shot Villa Gomez. That man has a concealed weapons permit.

The unidentified man who shot Villa Gomez is not expected to be charged in this incident; law enforcement call it a justifiable homicide.

Local police, the Sheriff's Office and the Nevada Highway Patrol are preparing for retaliation from one or both of the families, and rumors are already circulating in the small town of Winnemucca. There is a sense of sadness for losing three local men in this violent incident.

The Player's Bar & Grill was full of about 300 people, because a local biker event "Runnemucca" is going on this holiday weekend.

It must just be a Texas thing but guns in bars or any establishment that derives 51% of its income from the sell of alcohal is a big no no.

Is this only a texas thing?

3 dead in Nevada bar shooting

Three men were fatally shot and two other people were injured early Sunday at a bar in the northern Nevada town of Winnemucca, police said, and the shootings may have stemmed from a longstanding feud between several local families.
Winnemucca Police Chief Bob Davidson said a man entered Players Bar and Grill and fatally shot two members of a rival family before he was shot and killed by a patron. All three were pronounced dead at the scene.
The deceased shooter was identified as Ernesto Villagomez, 30, of Winnemucca. The other deceased men were identified as Jose Torres, 20, and his brother, Margarito Torres, 19, both of Winnemucca.

A 34-year-old man and a 22-year-old woman were listed in stable condition with gunshot wounds at the Winnemucca hospital. Their names weren't immediately released.

Sunday's shooting may have been in retaliation for an earlier drive-by shooting involving the families in the town of about 8,000 located 160 miles northeast of Reno, Davidson told Reno's KRNV-TV.

The 48-year-old patron from Reno who killed the shooter was initially taken into custody as a person of interest, but was later released after Humboldt County District Attorney Russell Smith determined the shooting was justifiable homicide.
The patron was in possession of a valid concealed weapons permit issued by the Washoe County Sheriff's office, Davidson said.
While the shootings occurred during the town's annual Runnamucca motorcycle rally, there's no evidence linking them to any rival motorcycle gangs or clubs, Davidson said.
About 300 people were inside the bar at the time.

    The case is under investigation.

My wife & I were in Dallas and stopped at a local restaurant for lunch this weekend. We like to try and patronize local places rather than big chain restaurants just so we can get more "local flavor." It's fun. Try it.

Anyway. Took one step in the door and saw two big-ass 51% signs directly ahead.

*sigh* Went back outside and left my HP under the car seat. :sad2:

I hate 51% signs. 30.06 you can ignore but 51% is bad joo-joo.

Same 51% rule here in MI too.

Good for him though, that's why we need more people concealed-carrying out there. Legally and with certain exceptions, but you get my point.

Meh it sounds like trash killing trash and someone stepped in. I guess its good since it endangered others in the bar but on the whole I can't get too worked up about criminals shooting each other. I wonder if the ccw holder knew the circumstances of the shooting if he would have fired.

I should have probably added. If you carry into a bar in MO, the first course of action the bar must take is to ASK you to leave. If you resist, then they can call the cops and it's a $100 fine. The law is alright because the "penalty" for carrying somewhere you are not supposed to is being asked to leave (unless it is a federal building or federal park).

    Concealed means concealed.

What? What? A sign? Oh, I'm sorry, I must have missed it. My apologies, I'll leave.

    100% legal.

Getting busted in a 51% place though... bad.

I know that the %51 will get you fucked, I thought the 30.06 would have the same result.

They have to provide you with notice that you're not allowed. If you didn't see the sign then they have to tell you to leave. 30.06 signs are placed in areas where the proprietor has said they don't want guns. So it's not a felony or anything. You just get kicked out. The 51% areas are felonies. Noooo felony for me thank you.

Edit: This is my opinion based on my CHL instructor (and buddy)'s interpretation of the law and what he teaches in his class. 30.06 has not been tested in court yet, so YMMV and really the law is pending clarification. I'd just as soon not be the test case. Hence "concealed means concealed." If you do it right nobody will ask you to leave and if a cop happens to catch you, the worst he is liable to say is "did you see the sign at the door?"
