I have a springfield XD 9mm 4" but im not so sure if I want to use it for my carry weapon, ive been looking for something else to get to carry, probably buy it some time during the winter.

im thinking about a Bersa thunder .380 or sig 232 for a compact

springfield 1911 GI .45 for a full size

anybody else carry? and what are your preferences and features that helped with your desicions?

In the warmer weather I carry my Glock 26, in colder weather I carry my Glock 30. Ocassionally, I will carry my Glock 19 or my full sized Kimber .45 in the day, as they don't have night sights.

my 19 is my carry pistol. it works for my size, and the capacity and terminal ballistics on 9mm are appropriate for a carry pistol.

G19/23 size is a perfect fit for me, personally I prefer the 40 caliber bullet so the G23 is my daily carry choice. Almost as important if not more so is the holster you'll be using, good leather or even kydex can make a huge difference, but I guess thats a bit off-topic. I generally leave my 45s for home use because I want something with a bit more speed for outside carry. I am considering building up a officer/commander size 1911 in 10mm, but until then my G23 resides in some Mitch Rosen leather.

I carry a Glock 27 with night sights daily. Occassionaly carry a 23 if I'm wearing something bulkier to cover it, not usually an option in Texas. I've tried carrying my Springfield 1911, but it just seems too heavy after an entire day.

One tip, if you do get a subcompact Glock (26,27,33) do not put the magazine +1 extension on it... you've just succeeded in making the front part of the grip just as long as one of the compacts ... you might as well carry a 19, 23, or 32 at that point. BTW, an XD 4" is approx the same size as one of the compact Glocks.

I have been thinkin' about this for a while, and I have come to the conclusion that I am going to get a .44 mag or .357 snub for carry. I am NOT a revolver man but in that once in a lifetime situation that I may need to fire on a threat, I want to have as much oomph and reliability behind it as I can.

I am carrying a H&K Compact .45. It carries well and is reliable but shoots too high.

Since it is winter, I think I will switch to my 1911.

Why not buy the Springfield XD compact? You can use the same mags and you are already accustomed to how the XD works.

I carry a variety of guns. Summer gun is usually a Kel-Tec P32. I can wear next to nothing and get away with it.

Now, when it starts getting warmer, I carry whatever I pick up when I go to the safe. Sometimes a P220 in a Galco paddle. Kinda bulky, but a good coat covers it up. I have tried to carry several of my 1911's in a Blackhawk SOB, but it just hurts! I've gotta get rid of that thing and get a Galco SOB as a replacement. The cant on the Blackhawk is just plain wrong! Now, my favorite gun for carry in the cooler months has to be my G23 in a Galco SOB. The cant is almost horizontal and it is comfortable to wear all day. I've driven for 2 hours and it didn't make me hurt; I've even sat through movies at the theater and there have been no problems. Oh, in the summer, I can carry my G23 in that cheap Glock plastic holster and keep it under a T-shirt. It kinda prints, but not too badly...

You will find that carring a big gun sucks ass. Get something compact with a decent capacity.

I am going to a belt holster to carry with...a million times more comfy than IWB

Negitive I have a Ruger New model blackhawk convertable .357 & 9mm and it is not that bad but it is also a heavy gun. But the 38 +p works nice as well. As i assume it woule in that little S&W. I also have a old army, National match gold cup 1911 in 38 special, Glock 17L, and a colt diamond back. But I can only use them for target shooting :wtc: Dam liberals

    :squint: Actually, it'd be a MP-5K; add a stock, and it'd be a MP5K-PDW...

I carry at Markarov in 9x18 Mak. IWB, or shoulder rig if I've riding my motorcycle. As soon as I can afford a VM-2, and more ammo for reliability testing with JHP's I plan on carrying my RIA 5" 1911 thru the winter.

I carry a Kel Tec P11 9mm in an iwb, a CZ 40 in a Galco Miami shoulder holster, a Kel Tec P3AT .380 in either a pocket holster or ankle holster. Soon I will add Springfield XDs in 3" compact in IWB and a tactical in the shoulder rig.

.44 mag is too much in a compact model and CCW IMO. The recoil makes a quick followup very very difficult. PLUS, if god forbid, you ever have to use it, it's going to be an issue against you in court. you have to remember legal ramifications about what you carry. (just the name Magnum is something that prosecutions will use to turn it from a self defense case into a gun nut looking to kill someone)
