if you truly must make an inferior caliber like .40, take the G23, not the 27. you're exactly my height, and 5 pounds heavier, so i know you can conceal it just fine IWB.

I chose the Glock 27 for my carry gun, mainly because if I want to wear it on my ankle it's small enough to fit without bulging, and if feel better IWB than a G23.

The key to conceal carry is comfort for me.

Why do you say .40 is inferior? I've talked with many people, including LEO's who say that they prefer a .40 over 9mm. and IMO .45 would be too large for my purpose

    RCSTZ71:

I'll add that to my list when I head to the store to check these out - thanks for the suggestion.

I'd carry the Sig 239 or the Glock 27.

most LEO's don't know shit about terminal ballistics. they only know what's popular, and like to read things about "stopping power" and the likes.

if you research terminal ballistics, you'll find that the best 9mm are as good as or better than the best .40 S&W rounds, and about 95% as good as the very best .45

however, you'll never fit as many .40, much less .45, rounds into a pistol, and that's a major factor, because even if you use a cartridge that IS the best, if you don't have enough rounds to take care of bidness, you're fucked anyways. capacity counts, which is why people carry backup mags and backup guns. if you carry something with 7 rounds, but you miss 5 and hit in poor locations two times, or there are multiple adversaries, having the best round on the market does nothing for you.

If you can't get the job done with 7-10 rounds you need to find another way to defend yourself...... :slap:

The Glock 27 holds 9 rounds in the mag or 10 with the extension not counting a chambered round. If you can't get it done with 11 rounds of .40 you better be well on the way to your long gun or praying.

so, i guess since that's the case, all of you are happy with the AWB, because after all, you don't need more than 10 rounds, ever, EVER. there is no point in having more than one magazine, and even then, only a 10 round mag, maximum. and what in the world do you need more than one gun for? you can't use them all at once, you know.

if more capacity is never needed, then why do they make mags with such capacity? and why do they make pistols capable of accepting such mags? and why on earth would anyone ever carry a spare mag?

i've seen videos of cops and bad guys standing less than 6 feet from each other, where both empty their respective magazines without hitting each other. that's about 20-30 rounds, depending on caliber and whatnot. at 2 yards or less. and not a single wound. if that can happen to a cop, it can happen to you. in that case, if all you had was 10 rounds, maybe 11, you'd be sore out of luck. especially if that 12th round might've done the job, or if the other guy has more ammo than you and realizes this. getting into a gunfight isn't anyone's goal, but once in one, your purpose should be to get out of it alive. it's hard to stop a threat that's shooting at you without ammo.

i've said this many times: the only two times i've ever heard anyone complain about having too much ammo is when they're drowning or on fire. there are plenty of times where a reload or a straight up lack of ammo led to someone's death.

FYI: This will be a first gun I will have owned, but I'm the military says i'm an expert on the 92FS :hsd: and I also have some range time outside the military and was raised in a home with guns. I've got all the formal and informal safety briefings. In addition, i've been spending alot of time reading about the laws around carrying, and legal situations when deadly force is allowed - still going to take a safety, law, and technique class in CCW - not required but I figured it wouldn't hurt.

round capacity is an issue - which is why I really like the Springfield XD series, available in 9mm, .357, and .40 - all are 10+1 capacity

Also, am I shortchanging myself trying to geta 3-3.5" over a 4"+

Will CCW be an issue if i grab a 4" barrel gun considering my frame size?

barrel length won't matter if you're carrying IWB, since the barrel will all be inside your britches. it's the thickness of the pistol, and the length of the grip that are important.

For strictly CCW, i favor my G27, but if you want to really enjoy your range time, you'll want something with a longer, full hand filling grip.

Check out the 4" Springfield XD, G23, P239, K40, or P40 (same thing with a polymer frame)

I would love to see one of those videos :bigthumb:

BTW I know cops that can't hit the broad side of a barn with a shotgun!
Just cause there a cop don't mean they can shoot! I think a cop has to re-qualify with his handgun every 5 years..... I've heard of cops saying that’s they only time they shoot their guns.....

BTW I know of some LE Depts that are now putting the firearms training in the beginning of the training due to book smart guys going thru the academy and not shooting worth a shit at the end!

Were I work we have to re-qualify every 6 months. Every year with the long guns.

And I have seen/heard more videos of shootings of less than 10 rounds.

It just comes down to a case - case basis.

But the extra rounds are a nice extra little security.

    My .02...

G23 isn't bad for IWB, but the shorter pistols (26/27) ARE more comfortable. The issue with the longer barrel isn't when you're standing up walking around, it's when you're sitting or bending over. Same with the USPc.

If theres one "General Concept" that applies here, it's that you shouldn't always try to compremise when you're buying a pistol.

*If you want one for CCW, then get one for CCW.
*If you want a full size combat pistol to wear on your belt, then get a fullsize pistol.
*If you want something that'll be comfortable shooting at the range... etc...

If you try to compremise, you'll likely end up with something that just kinda sucks for everything.

Here is where you should put underneith your opinion...

    *I do not own a G23.
    *I do not own a G27.
*I do not carry concealed except in my bedroom.

...so that we can all take your opinions with a grain of salt.
