I have heard of these pistol cartridge shotshells before and have just seen them on some website. WTF is the purpose of these? Home defense?

What are your opinions? Anybody use them before? (not just the CCI's, but other brands as well)

I believe they're commonly used for snakes. Certainly not a personal defense round.

Crap. There is no better defensive round than a premium hollow point. All the other ron popeil rounds just take your money and leave you with underperforming junk. We're pretty durable animals, if you want to disable a person you must make a wound that goes deep enough to reliably reach the vital organs and central nervous system. Frangible rounds like magsafe, glaser, and extreme shock just make far too shallow of a wound to be good for defensive use.

If there is one document I could make every new shooter interested in self defense read it would be this http://www.firearmstactical.com/hwfe.htm

For a little info discussing more specifically why frangible rounds suck here is a good place to start http://www.firearmstactical.com/briefs5.htm

Ooooo well they're designed to seperate uneducated people from their money like the tornado air intake system ;)

CCI shotshells, like people said above are for snakes and pests...they aren't "defense" ammo like Glasers and such.

I have a box of .38 shot for snakes and crap. I wouldn't use them in anything besides a revolver personally.

I use Speer Gold Dot's for carry, and in no way am I gonna switch from those. I was just curious about what those shot shells were designed for. Thats all. :)

My uncle had a box of those in .45 that he got from walmart, they cycled his 1911 just fine. Barely powerful enough to go through both sides of a double thick cardboard box, but they did cycle.

His original post stated that he was looking at them in 9mm. I was saying that I would only shoot snake shot out of a revolver not that I would only shoot .38 sp out of a revolver. Sorry I didn't make myself clear. Oh and there are rifles that shoot .38 sp.
