Back when I had my old '90 FJ1200 the only other bike I ever thought I could ever want was a CBR1100XX Blackbird. Last year a buddy of mine bought a 2000 model. Fortunately the two of us are good friends and I've had my fair amount of seat time.

The bike is a drastic change of pace from my RC51. After riding the CBR and jumping on the RC the RC feels like a little toy in comparison... although, a really *mean* toy for that sick, sadistic, twisted kid your mom always prevented you from playing with as a child.

I am now, always have been, and probably always will be a street rider first. As much as I love my RC51 my main irritation with the bike is that I can only go a couple of hours on it before it beats me into submission. Everything about it screams "GO FASTER."

On Sunday I took the CBR out for a spin and spent a few hours on it... finished up the ride completely satisfied and feeling refreshed. The ride wasn't as exciting as the RC51 typically gives me, but more often than not when I go for a ride I'm not looking for an adrenaline rush. Not only that, but the adrenaline rush I look for from a street bike typically involves overwhelmingly quick acceleration, something the Blackbird can definitely do. Not that I don't enjoy cutting up a nice backroad, but sometimes the anxiety involved with that kind of riding on street surfaces overwhelms the enjoyment.

So basically, my friend is thinking about selling his Blackbird and I've got first dibs on it. He's offered me a good deal, just like he did when I bought the RC51 from him. This would allow me to price the RC51 very aggressively to get a quick sale. This particular Blackbird is spotless; immaculate condition.

So should I go for it? What would you do? Keep the RC51 or go for the Blackbird?

I think that's what I'm going to do if he ends up selling the bike. :hs:

He wants to sell it, I want to buy it. The only obstacle is his wife... she's tired of him buying and selling bikes like a kid trades baseball cards.

    I dunno, I guess I don't understand his newfound dual-sport obsession. :dunno:

Honda gave the Blackbird the axe for the USDM. I wouldn't count on us getting that. :(

Read my post and you'll find that I feel the same way, but it isn't like the Blackbird handles poorly. It just isn't as focused and edgy as the RC51.

Sometimes when I ride all I want is the straightline power. Any empty interstate and a lot of power can be awesome for stress relief.

Another reason is that the Blackbird doesn't beat the shit out of it's rider after a couple of hours, it's far more comfortable.

Eh fuck it... I'm about 90% sure I'm going to get this thing. Anybody want an RC51? :)

    $6000 OBO

If nobody bites I'm selling it to a local dealership and eating the loss, which won't be too much.

Oh... trust me on this one... I've thought about that. :big grin:

The difference between the Blackbird and the 954RR at speeds of over 150 mph is that the Blackbird is far more stable due to it's extra length and weight. Not that the 954 is going to fall over or anything... but I had my RC51 up to 170 mph once and it felt like my helmet was going to be sucked off of my head for lack of wind protection, I don't see the 954RR being far superior in that regard.

If I had a 954RR sitting in front of me like I do a Blackbird, for a good price... like the Blackbird... I'd get the 954RR. But if I buy a Blackbird now and get the touringish bug out of my system that'll give me a year or two to see what's going on with all the new liter class bikes and give me a better basis for a decision on one of those.

...or I could end up buying the Blackbird and doing like I did when I had the F4... sell it because I want something more aggressive. :dunno:

Chances are the bike I buy after this one will be a 600 which will probably be a dedicated track bike.
