C&C appreciated. Just got back from AT, and spent about a week with the mortars while they got to shoot. Funny, the best view Camp Ripley has to offer, and the Army gives it to the guys that just want to blow it up. On to the fun!

For the most part i was behind the firing line. for the close up crew shots, they let me crawl up onto the 113. I was sitting on the air intake port, right next to the driver's hatch. catching the round in the tube was a stroke of luck that used up my supply for the rest of the year. From here on out Murphy's Law will rule my life. :hs:

I wish I had a dslr when I was still in the USMC. I was a tank mechanic and always followed the tanks when they went out for patrols, to the range, you name it.

    nice pics btw

No kidding... I was Army in an MLRS Field Artillery unit. Would love to have some pictures of 'steel rain' from my time in the field and on the range ( http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Steel_rain )

#7 and #15 are very nice :bigthumb:

Exif should be intact for all shots. the night shots were 15-30 second exposures (except for the very dim one) and i opened the shutter when i heard the fire mission come in... essentially using the muzzle flash as a rear curtain sync.

Never been to knox. I'm a medic. Did my training on Ft. McCoy, and Ft. Sam Houston. These were shot on Camp Ripley, MN. I was detached out to the mortars to provide medical support, which basically meant i sat around doing nothing, so i busted out the camera. Any of these where i caught the round was pure FPS spray-and-pray, so yeah, they were lucky shots.

    Thanks guys! :wavey:

it's very visible in 1 and 3. that dark circle between the antenna in 1, and it's further to the right in 3.

a lot of times it won't even be visible unless you're doing exactly what you did there...photographing the sky (probably at a high f-stop) and you wouldn't notice it....now that you know it's there though, you'll see it always!!!!:eek3:
