I'm shopping midsized sedans right now to trade my 1994 F-150 in for the Cash for Clunkers rebate. Anyone else trading in their clunker?

Test drove a Ford Fusion 6 speed the other night. I liked it, but am trying to keep my mind open for now.

I'd like to, but I don't have the cash to throw at a new car right now. And besides, my Passat's last smog test registered 0ppm carbon monoxide and NOx/particulates so low their equipment couldn't measure it.

Which is to say, when you actually change your oxygen sensors every 25,000 miles (or whatever they recommend), it actually DOES make a difference, even on an old engine with an old catalyst.

You could trade your Ford in for an Aveo and only be out like $2500 or so. If it gets 6mpg or better than your trade in you get $4500 I believe, so the Fusion qualifies. I've driven one Fusion and one of the new Tauruses, and they are quite nice. Good back support, okay interior, and enough power for most people. I've heard good things about the Malibu too, but not the Impalas (at least the v6 ones.)

I thought about going to a cheap small car, but I have a 2005 Corolla right now and it is starting to get annoying to drive for 5-6 hours at a time on the Interstate. I'll probably sell the Corolla private party, after I trade the truck in and get a new midsized car.

I'm going to check out a Hyundai Sonata next week. I'm staying away from GM and Chrysler, due to my mistrust of socialistic motoring companies.

I don't know about Hyundai's though. Chrysler probably doesn't have anything worth buying in your price range, but GM and Ford have some nice offerings. What about moving up to a Camry or a Maxima? Subaru's are pretty nice too if you haven't considered them, but you will end up paying more.

I can't believe they are letting me use the 4500 to go from a 96 caprice with 500k+ on the odo (it quit working in 1999 @ 333,666 and stayed in everyday patrol until 2004) to a new Malibu if I decide to do it! I <3 the prez!

Test drove an Accord today. It's a GREAT car. Dash is definitely goofy, though.

I really like the looks of the '10 Fusion. Tough choice. Maybe I'll just wait long enough for the money to run out (again) and just drive what I have.
