So i just started taking this stuff last week as a before bed meal. i use a hand blender to mix this stuff up into milk. the first 2-3 times i did it, i had the blender stir it for pretty long, and it got really thick, and made it taste pretty nasty. today, i blended it at 1/2 the time, and it was way less thick, making it taste 10x better. anyone know if it's some weird properties of casein that does this? i know for sure whey doesn't react this way.

so is it better if i use a shaker rather than a hand blender? hope i'm not destroying any of its good properties.

use extra water, casein is used as a thickener. if you let it sit it gels.

damn, so now i've been using 8 ounces of milk for the casein instead of the 4 ounces i used to use with whey. this sucks because i find myself waking up sometime during the night to go to the bathroom.

i do mix whey in milk, but that's for pre and post workout. i'm using casein before i go to sleep.

try using 4oz milk and 4oz water, or just water.

casien is a good protein before bed, micellar casien is better and a bit more miscible.

oh, so i'm guessing the casein mixes better with water? that unfortunately still doesn't solve my bladder problem, but whatever, i'll deal with it.

casein supposedly doesn't fully digest until about 6 hours right? not sure if digest is the right word though.

I've been drinking 15oz water with my Pro Labs Casein cuz the 12oz they recommend is a bit thick for me to chug... and I sleep on that all night (plus I usually have a glass of water to wash the shake down)

I usually wake up and head straight to the pisser tho, and that motherfucker comes out yellow and STANK :rofl::rofl:

why? 4:1 carbs/protein (a bunch of which is soy) ration. doesn't sound very helpful, especially right before bed

    damn it recommends 12 ounces?

so what's the best way to mix the thing? simply with a shaker?

i love using a hand blender with whey because it mixes very very well. don't think this will work for casein though, since it seems to get thicker the more it's mixed.

Mine recommends 12... might vary by brand? Dunno if that's a casein thing, some Trader Joes whey I had only wanted 4oz water for a ~20g protein scoop (and 7-8g sugar, IIRC... maybe 30g scoop?)

I use my mixing stick, I had clumping issues in my bottle w/plastic mixing insert. Never tried it with the "ball" cup, that might work better? :dunno:

I usually do 1 scoop pure casein, in 16 oz of skim milk. Still ends up being around 40g of protein, and it isn't as thick.
