What everyday cleaning/maintenance do you guys do for your carry gun? I usually just wipe mine down with a tri-care cloth or a silicon rag, but I noticed the other day there was condensation in the magwell. I'm assuming it was from it being cold outside because it wasn't doing it over the summer.

Do you guys break it down at all and wipe it down, or just let it be?

I usually wipe it down about every other day. A couple drops on the slide, rack it a few times, and generally check to make sure it isn't dry. Field strip and full cleaning once a week.

Same here. I carry a G26, and don't do anything to it.

My father carried the same Glock 22 every single day for 4 years, one day I asked to borrow it to go to the range and came home to clean it. When I was taking it apart he said "What are you doing that for?" "Oh, well I was cleaning it since I shot it." "Son that gun hasn't been cleaned for years, doubt you need to do that."

I cleaned it anyways, but as I was doing it I realized I really did not need to do that.

:werd: Mine doesn't leave the holster unless I'm at the range to shoot it, or at the bench to strip & clean.

Yeah, a lot of guys have a misconception of cleaning. I've done both, I used to clean my gun ALL the time when I was younger, and then I took note that all of my mentors I shoot with subscribed to the theory that they left it mostly alone only cleaning the slide, rails and pushed a patch down the barrel, and I've been doing that now and I haven't noticed any difference from when I was keeping it clean.

I think a lot of people OVER clean their guns, especially the barrels. Unless you shoot a particularly dirty load (if you reload) you shouldn't need to do any more than pushing a patch down the barrel a few times. Especially if all you shoot is stock ammo. Unless you have severe lead fouling, it actually shoots a little better and you place less damage on your rifling.

Before a big match, I NEVER do a complete field strip and clean. I'll check key points of the gun to ensure all of my parts are good, but other than that it's Taboo to do a full field strip of your gun before a big match.

Now my magazines on another hand, I keep impeccable.

Gotta be prepared for Sharks right? :coolugh:

Although the keltec would probably blow up if you fired it in the water, get yourself a glock.

It's a glock... so I do nothing to it. I shoot it about once a month, and just wipe it down and reholster it.

The most that happens to my G30 is moving it from my holster to my desk. ;)

I run a few hundred rounds through it every month.. don't plan on cleaning it any time soon.

Thanks for the input. Mine is also a glock so I guess I don't have to worry about it. I just didn't know if getting a lot of moisture/condenation inside the gun would be something that needed to be addressed. I think I'll still wipe the salts and oils off of it after carrying.

I empty out the ammo and pull off the rubber grips of my j-frames (the only corrosion I find is behind the grips) I generally wipe it down with a silicone cloth between once a week and every 2 weeks.
