Coolant eh? You can pickup a set of stock heads off of an LS1 for relatively cheap. 241 Casting, or 853 is the casting on the 98 iirc. Right around ~$100 bucks. Look on LS1tech & Ebay. Here's a set of 241s on Ebay right now:

Heads only start getting expensive when you start trying to get LS6 heads.

What heads were you running on the car? Also, what happened? It looks like your valves ate your piston.

Combustion chamber of cylinder 5 looks pretty wet. What's up with that? Your spark plugs look done in both cyls. What failed? Did you overrev?

I've never heard of GTP heads though?

dunno, yeah all the plugs are done but ls1's typically run leaner on #7. http://gtp-racing.com/ well its been smoking for a while so that was kind of an indication i guess. finally let go the break is a very sharp cut, so its likely they were fractured or cracked

Odd, especially since only cyl 7 made contact. Or were your pistons flycut?

  7. The ring land collapsed. The damage on the piston was caused by the piston mashing the metal broken from the ring land into the head.

I do not know what a ring land is. Please explain.

  10. The lands are the grooves where the rings sit.

    Wow. Oops.

How does something like that happen on a stock engine?

GTP heads were decent about 5-6 years ago but you can get something on par if not better for a decent price. PRC heads are stock ported castings and they flow good numbers for the price. I think you can pick them up for about 1200. Texas Speed sells them I believe.

I've got piles of stockers 241 castings I'll sell for for 100 plus shipping.

I think I have a set of ported 853 with larger valves and good springs I'll let go for a couple of hundred plus shipping.

BTW, what's your total budget for this project?

Did you hit the nitrous below 3000 RPM or in too high of a gear?
