it depends what you do, most of the guys in my AFSC get out and do something in the engineering world or just get cushy GS jobs doing the same thing
I thikn of our last 5 supers 4 of them stayed on plus a few that werent in charge that stayed.. and got GS or contractor jobs

    so theydid the same thing

it all depends on what you do in the AF.. i know lots of pepople who made carrers...

To be honest with you.. Wether you are in the USAF or not; if you don't take advantage of the resources around you then you are going to get out with nothing.

So no matter what job you come in to; do college while you are in or do your time and use your GI bill..

If you don't do either of those then you deserve to flip burgers. .

After 9 years in the Army working Network Switching Systems I was hired at WorldCom as a Network Engineer. My military experience in a technical careerfield, and leadership experience, along with civilian certifications made me more marketable than a college graduate.

I am now in the Air Force and my AFSC is 2E653. I couldn't stand working in the civilian job sector. Civilians have no work ethic, and generally take no pride in the quality of their work.

My AFSC (62E) is critcally undermanned. The reason is because most people in my field leave when their commitment is up.

Sorry but I need I need to do more researching to understand codes.. May i ask what 62E stands for and which base are you currently at?

Even though nearly everyone says that it's not a good reason, do any of you guys actually looked forward to traveling while in the AF? It is one of the reasons why I'm currently thinking about joining and not to mention any others. I am the type that just enjoys change and well... i'm hoping the airforce would be a good candidate.

Pick a marketable job in the civilian sector. I did six years in the Air Force as an air traffic controller. I've now been out since the end of February and have been offered two ATC jobs; one with the DOD and one with the FAA. I turned down the DOD job and am leaving for the FAA job in a week. I also managed to complete my bachelor's degree while in the Air Force.

I went into Intelligence (1NO31) and came out to become a Nurse.
