It was kind of a toss-up between posting this in C&P, G&G, or here in A&P. I figured you guys would probably have the best sense of what makes for a good one, though.

I'm considering getting my mother a digital photo frame for Christmas, so she doesn't have to piss money away on photo paper except when she really wants to keep a photo around for the long-term. Obviously it would be nice if the thing doesn't look like crap, but the biggest considerations are picture quality (such as can be achieved with an LCD compared to paper), and longevity -- I don't need to have the thing burn out on me after a couple of months.

Someone here built their own for much cheaper like under $100 do a search in this forum, any decent one will easily cost much more than that

I'm giving it to my mother. It has to be idiotproof. Homemade things are rarely idiotproof.

:werd: The one made out of the laptop is pretty "idiot proof" and looked relatively easy to make. It looked nice too

I liked Ace's laptop frame, but I did just get a Philips 7FF1CM as a gift.
So far, I like it alot. Shows the pics real well, easy to use, etc etc..

i'm looking for one of these too, and while i like ace3's project, would rather have something my parents would be able to use as well. any particular brands to avoid?

Yeah, the picture is real nice. The transfer to the frame is good.

Not sure if they make one with a gold grame. Mine is silver, I know my in-laws have a wood frame.

I wonder if I can remove the surround and have it plated...hmm...

My mother LOVES gold. The only reason she owns any silver at all is because gold dining sets look blingy.

I'll take a look at mine tonight and let you know. I think the frame is just plastic, so im not sure how well plating will work, but ill look at that too.
