I've understood that cardio after a lift session is best for "fat burning" results. However what kinda cardio should it be? light and just keep the heart rate up, or just quick bursts like intervals?

just keep your HR around 160-170 bpm for 20 minutes or more. It doesn't matter where it comes from, you can have sex if you want but as long as your HR is there.

Low intensity, long duration, first thing thing on the am on an empty stomach (well, green tea and stims don't count).

personally, i like going relatively long and slow.

from what i've learned form he smart people here, HIIT isn't gonna have that much of advantage over other forms of cardio use you're already pretty damn lean

What are your goals? You looking to shred are are you looking to bulk? This is a hugely debated topic too if you google it. Nobody seems to be able to agree on what's right and what's wrong for certain goals. The way I do it, and don't take my word for it, is I do regular cardio (80% target) for 20 minutes 3 days a week when I'm on the cardio binge. It's enough to keep my heart healthy, but not so much that I burn up a bazillion calories that could be used for lifting and rebuilding.

i'm kinda at an akward stage in my body where i went from 224 30%+ to 185 16-17%, 5'11. I look skinny, but i've still got a gut and man titties. I'm not strong at all so i'd like to put muscle on, but at the same time i want to get rid of my gut and man titties. My legs are somewhat normal looking :dunno:

Well, what I'd do in your situation was bulk, but again, don't take my word as gospel. Clean bulking at 16-17% should slim you down solidly to 13-14% and tightening up your chest and core'll keep it from being saggy.

well, i've been > 2k cals and i'm maintaining my weight, but i'm slowly burning fat because my clothes are fitting a tad looser. I'm wondering if i should up to 2200 or maybe 2300 clean and see how that helps.

Actually it's best to separate cardio and lifting as much as possible.. lifting in the morning, cardio in the evening if possible.

I'm in the same stage. Was 210 dropped down to 160ish. Now I'm 170ish. I kinda fell out of my routine and started eating like crap again. Now I can't decided if I want to finish the cut I started like....2 years ago.... or bulk and just say fuck it

More calories isn't going to increase your fat burn though.

And for the thread starter I would suggest mixing it up, do a little of everything. Jog sometimes, do sprints, run up and down stairs at a museum or something, play basketball for a few hours. Youll definitely get the best results if you keep it interesting, and vary the intensity.

I dont know the guys name, but there was a guy who wrote a book around 1970 called Long Slow Distance and that was his retort to Coe's comment :bigthumb:

Yeah i know, but i don't wanna wither down to not a lot of muscle. I'm okay with how i look clothed, so if i can put on some muscle and then slim down i'd be okay with that. Summer is already here so its not like i'm on a ridiculous beach cut or something.

I do 20 minutes of intense HIIT on the stairmaster before lifting. It helps get me warmed up for lifting and leads to longer/better/more productive workouts.
