hey guys i'm in the process of losing some lbs and need to start doing cardio. I hate running and it hurts my knees, is riding the exersice bike or eliptical machine just as good a running? I have been doing either of those for 30 minutes the past few days.

They are all different but much better than nothing. Have you given any thought to swimming? It's low impact and ends up with added benefits to your breathing. I run much more than I do the others (only tend to get knee pain if I'm going more than say 5km), but I enjoy running and play a lot of sport so I need to do it anyways. I change things up now and again just to do something different, but would run 75% of the time.

I have thought about swimming, and will probably do some from time to time. I'm going to try some running at the track behind my house and see how the knees feel.

My diet is finally back to where it should be and I have been lifting weights as well. My overall goal is to lose 10-15 pounds and tone up what I have.

if you're just doing it to burn calories, machines are fine, and especially if you're heavy, its better for your joints.

as mentioned, swimming is good, just don't try the phelps routine and eat 10k/day :mamoru:

you need to see if there is a specialty runners store in the area. They may be able to do a gait test and get you in the right pair of shoes.

I used to get shit about using treadmills for cardio. It has kept my 2 mile run time at around 12:30 and I believe in leg days, so meh.
