I've always thought that the best times to take my morning jogs is before breakfast...but I've read a lot of contradicting opinions!

Example: t-nation says cardio before breakfast, but a thread in OT F&N archives says breakfast before cardio.

    So, what's real?

whatever you feel like, but personally, i like to have something in my stomach before I work out in the morning or else I feel like I am going to pass out.

There is no benefit to doing it on an empty stomach...and only disadvantage is that you can possibly pass out and such due to lack of energy.

Anyone who would pass out while doing cardio on an empty stomach deserves to be obese.

But otherwise you're right. Doing cardio on an empty stomach is about as beneficial as trying to stay in the fat burning zone. At least IMO.

I have to eat before I work out or I feel like I have absolutely no energy.

I do 30min on a treadmill and 5x25 ab work on a empty tank. I have not issues but I'm also half awake anyway.

It's not gonna make a difference. If you feel better on an empty stomach, just do it that way.

When I do cardio in the morning I have to do it on an empty stomach to take advantage of my yohimbine + caffiene I still haven't used up.

Depends on you. If you do better without eating then do it. If you feel fine eating before then do it.

me personally I can do cardio on an empty stomach with a lot of water and eat afterwards.

BUT on long distance days I'll eat a package of oatmeal about an hour before my jog for energy.

    Exactly.

Most times I even do weights on an empty stomach if I'm going first thing in the morning. Though I try to have some EAA's and BCAA's throughout the workout. When money permits. :hs:

Dawt. I did a 10 mile run on Saturday on a granola bar and coffee.

    No passing out, either.

I prefer to do my cardio in the morning on an empty stomach. I also eat my fourth meal around 3:00pm and I don't train until 6:00pm.

lets think about it this way.... your body produces glycogen, most of which is depleted by the time you wake up, so all the energy will have to come from somewhere (fat) for your workout. this is the reasoning people use when they say workout empty, whether it works or not, i dunno, but it is logical.

I'm pretty sure the 2nd half of that statement isn't true.

Between your liver and your muscles, you hold about 2000-2500 calories worth of glycogen.

fed cardio reduces catabolism and in most cases does not hinder fat loss when compared to fasted cardio.

Was just about to post that.

I read a very similar article to the one posted in the thread and I agree with it one bit.

For one month I ran every morning on an empty stomache and it really did not deliver the results I was looking for. I was too spent too soon and did experience more than normal catabolism during the cut.
