There seems to be a lot of sites advising to do cardio first thing in the morning on an empty stomach to burn the most fat. Then there are a couple sites that are against it. Anyone here have any insight?

Some of the talk is that your body has it's lowest glycogen level in the morning so if you do cardio you will burn fat. I kinda think the body would freak out and burn muscle before the fat because it will think it's not going to get any food intake.

I was always under the impression that you should do your cardio after lifting... opinions?

It really doesn't matter when you do it over the long term.

I would always drink a protein shake in water before I would do my morning cardio. Your body is catabolic upon waking and you need to get some protein/cals in ya asap.

Absolutely agree. I usually have a protein shake or meal replacement as in slin-fast before I hit the gym I go to the gym at 5:00am, and do 20-30 min. cardio first thing, then hit the weigths. I have found my endurance is better, and it warms the body before going crazy on the heavies.

Working out in the morning is good if you get some food in it before. I suggest an apple or such because you can work on an empty stomache to burn more fat. But the downside is that it will destroy your muscle and make you weaker. So if you have some fast sugars it will decrease the muscle loss and you will still lose fat.
