I'm trying to get back into shape and was wondering what is an appropriate amount of cardio exercise? I've been told different things from different people. Some say doing it 4 times a week for 45 minutes is a good amount OR doing it everyday for 15 minutes is also a good amount.

I'd like to get rid of some extra fat in my abdomen area, so figured I can start with this. I know abs are made in the kitchen, but want to supplement both cardio + eating healthy. :hs:

I think 4x a week is plenty if you're dieting right

I've been doing 6 days a week for 30-40 minutes @ ~140 heart rate. I feel it's been helping me lose weight significantly.

Thats about right if you're in your mid twenties but you might get the same results trying higher intensity, shorter duration in the morning before meal time.

I hate cardio enough to not do it. :o

Thats a big area for debate but unless you're trying to hold onto extra lean mass, i'd say yes. I think for most people fasted cardio will help shed fat, assuming a decent diet but i know a lot will disagree.

I think that its already been discussed here and the majority think that there is no significate difference in fasted and non-fasted cardio but everyone thinks HIIT is the way to go. :o

    hiit is like this:

you warm up for 5 min
you sprint for 30 seconds to 1 minute at 90% or so.
you go back to warm up speed (maybe 130 bpm for a 25 year old) for 1 minute
    repeat for 15 minutes.
    cooldown...

A good sign that you're working hard enough is shortness of breath, burning in your throat and burning in your legs.
