Ok, so I'm no expert, but this sounded a bit odd to me.

My cousin has given up protein intake in favor of carb drinks....why?

He said something about carbs doing something to your insulin and how protein does the opposite so therefore, protein is not good for you and that all you need are lots of carbs :coolugh:

How do I explain to him that protein IS necessary and that this is a dumb move...or am I the dumbass for not understanding something here?

    Protein + carbs
    BCAA + carbs

This is what I recommend based on what I've seen and experienced. Always using the healthiest source of carbs possible.

Carbohydrates cause a release in insulin to lower blood sugar levels (I think?), it is used as a primary source of energy. Proten is used to build/maintain muscle. You need both, but carbs are better attained from whole foods.

protein and fat are essential macronutrients - you need them to live
    carbs are not

Yes, but to create an insulin release to transport that protein and fat to your body you need carbs :dunno:

Your body does not need carbs to sustain life. Protein and fat can both elicit an insulin response.

Well, the more carbs you consume, the less protein you need

Even that is oversimplifying it... not that there's anything wrong with simplifying things. And of course... there's that "NEED" word again :noes:
