Can someone please explain to me why a 1998 Honda Prelude is higher on insurance than a 2000 Pontiac Trans Am LS1 6speed ?

There are plenty of reasons behind rates for different vehicles. Like Vortex had mentioned, claims do have a big impact on the rates of a vehicle. Also to help or hurt rates are safety ratings, crash ratings, percentage of drivers that get speeding tickets in the said vehcile, age of the driver of certain vehicles, and the amount of research that has been invested into the vehicles and more.

There is reason behind it, although it may not seem fair. Hopefully you aren't comparing the price of of your vehicle insurance to what a friend or family has. The person it self also has a big difference in the rate. Depending on the state, age, credit, driving record, and duration of insurance experience and claims also can affect your rate.

You can PM me if you have any specific questions about insurance.

Domestic will always be cheaper than an import.

    I have a 1996 Prelude, and I pay $160 a month full coverage.

I''m also 27 and have no tickets and accidents though.

BINGO!!! After the 25-year old mark, your rates drop a big chunk.
