Does anyone else seem to have trouble really developing the Cannon-Ball shoulders? Out of any body part, I want to develop my shoulders the most, and for some reason they're the hardest to do.

I'm just wondering if there are any other smaller-shouldered guys out there.

Everyone's like "Naaa, I don't do shoulders, I get them big enough from Chest workouts". But this isn't holding true to me at all.

    bullshit

heavy presses, rear delt work, and some lateral movements. give it a couple years and you'll have what you're after

I'll admit that at first I was just blaming genetics and generally sucking out, as I had a bad shoulder injury a few years ago. However, in the last month I've been upping the intensity a bit. I'm going to Hawaii at the end of January and want to cut a little bit before I go, so I'll continue to eat like a pig and push the workouts until 5 weeks or so before I leave.

That was true for me too. A lot of guys neglect direct shoulder work b/c of benching. When I benched my first 500 (shirted) I couldn't incline 300. My shoulders were just weak.

I started doing more direct shoulder work, Vincent Dizenzo style. Immediately my bench dropped quite a bit, but that was because most of my energy was being put where I was weakest.

Long story short I got a lot stronger on shoulders, and no longer need to do extremely heavy direct shoulder work. I tend to do more body building style higher rep stuff, usually 10-12, but sometimes higher. Last Weds I did the 90's seated overhead for a single set of 25 reps. Good times.

Anyway, remember that most of the guys who don't need to do direct shoulder work still have strong shoulders. Vin has overhead pressed 400 in competition, and he recently did a 600 raw bench. Jeremy Hoornstra does a lot of shoulder work. Pretty much all of the strongman competitors. Ted Arcidi, etc. etc. It's not necessary for a big shirted bench, but if you do it right it sure does help. It helps a ton for raw work.

My shoulders aren't that strong either, which is probably a good reason why they're not big. Maybe i'm just refusing to admit I'm going hard enough at the gym.

zomg, I'm gonna trash them tonight for sure.

I personally prefer to do bent over raises before laterals or front raises and actually tend to do front raises last since they get the most indirect work already.

Yeah? I've been doing front raises by holding a 45lb plate and lifting it straight up in front of me, to a finished position over my head. I do drop sets until I'm doing it with a single 10 lb plate. Those are what I call my "front raises", I guess.

I don't even do shoulders anymore.

I used to put some long hours in on my shoulder work, but now between hardcore chest and back days my shoulders get a decent workout.
More than anything I am just afraid of another shoulder injury, but no doing shoulders really hasn't affected me that much.

However, i've always had pretty broad/strong shoulders.

Fuckin' A. I wish my shoulder didn't pussy out on me and hurt when I do heavy shoulder work. I kinda miss that feeling that made you wanna scream when your delts are on fire.
