i tried chucks and new form today. i end up just shifting my hips like 4" and doing my old style DLs... wasting tons of energy. i don't get how i'm supposed to lift it :wtc: i also can't get my shoulders behind the bar no matter what I try. i did 275 for 5 bad reps but couldn't even do 295 today :o i was trying to pull back on the bar but it just doesn't work

help me fix wtf im doing wrong

pull back as if you are going to fall backwards.

ass down, shoulders behind the bar, etc.

well ya i know that i just don't get how i'm supposed to do it.

if I pull back my shoulders go way infront of the bar and it rolls along the floor :mamoru:

my ass can't go any farther down either :hsd:

eh? don't "pull back" until the bar is off the floor. start leaning backwards (as if you're trying to fall on your ass) as you push your hips forward.

and pull barefoot. chucks are for ankle support while squatting.

i bought the chucks just for deadlifting :mamoru:

they're good for wide stance squats but I do narrow so I'm sticking to running shoes.

looks like you are doing the DL in two parts. straightening the legs then a SLDL from a foot off the ground.

it's not like the weight is heavy :dunno:

I like to use at least working weight so I can get the feeling right. if I'm trying to lean back and I'm using just 135 it won't work as well.

just because the weight isn't heavy doesn't mean you should compromise your form?

your ass isn't low enough to the ground, it seems like you're almost stiff legging em. put your ass low to the ground and squat up, just as if you were doing a squat, you should be using your leg drive and then back should take over...it seems like you're using most of your back for the whole exercise

when you start the lift, you're supposed to keep your back "firm".

it looks like you're raising your ass and lowering your upper body at the same time in the first video, so your legs arent even helping you get the weight off the floor.

I gotta find a way to lock my upper body in that position so my legs actually do something :o

what do you squat compared to your deadlift?

without seeing the video, keep your ass down and push the floor away from you via your heals.

lol @ the kid in the wifebeater and sagger shorts "working out" behind you.
Love those kids, especially when they try to stare you down like you're at a highschool basketball court...

Anyway, If you look at the reps it looks like what basically everyone above said. You are overcompensating with your back early for lack of form using your legs. Notice how your legs "lock out" almost uselessly at the top of the lift. Lock out earlier with legs imo.

that's pretty much how I deadlift and I've never gotten an injury or anything from it... As long as you keep your spine neutral I don't see any reason to be so picky :dunno:

hm, i think it's a bad thing to think this way. you should be doing anything you can to prevent injury, especially while doing deadlifts. all those people you hear about with slipped disks, back injuries, etc, a lot of it has to do with deadlift. it's absolutely crucial to have good form and do deadlifts the right way to prevent fucking yourself up. It may not have happened to you yet, but sooner or later it will if you keep doing deadlifts the wrong way

the closer your back is to the horizontal the greater the torque or the shear force on your lumbar spine.

I'd say this is your problem, work on your squat and your deadlift will improve.

Jesus christ dude... lower your damn hips. When you start to lift the weight your back is parallel with the fucking floor!

actually I just broke out the full body mirror and checked my form with some light weight and my head is a lot higher than my butt, so I guess my form is better than that.
