GUN Can't choose between...

Discussion in 'On Topic' started by Martin Atchet, Sep 7, 2008.

  1. A G17 or a Sig P226. They both fit my hand well and I shoot fine with both. I also saw a deal on a refurbished G22 with night sights for $480. :noes:

    Help!

I'm not a huge Glock fan, I'd suggest the Sig

It's mostly personal preference, but these are a few solid differences I can think of offhand:

    Sig:
    • spendy magazines
    • feels much more solid
    • metal frame if that's your thing
    • DA/SA
    • Hammer to get caught on things or manually cock/decock
    G17:
    • cheap, high-reliability magazines
    • infamous blah glock trigger
    • looser-feeling than sig
    • polymer frame - but some people grumble about "tactical tupperware" like the buzzword is going to go out of style tomorrow. It gets annoying when some fatass that can barely hit the backstop with his 1911 (which is always "just back from the 'smith") talks shit about polymer-framed guns from the moment he spots it until you're finally out of earshot
    • SA-only
I like my G17, but I'm also fond of my P220. G17 was my first pistol so I'm a bit more proficient with it than the P220.

My Sig experience is limited but of the two I'd go with the Glock, personally.

Hard to decide, I think you'll eventually end up with both if you're like most gun guys. :big grin:

I have both, I like my 226 better as a daily shooter. I think its more accurate, I like the heft of the metal frame, I like the design and the controls. Its the one that lives next to the bed as a HD gun.

I also have a G17 and G34. They are my "game" guns. They are simple, they are light, they are easy to modify.

If I had to carry one or the other, I'd likely choose the Glock since its a lot lighter weight.

They're different and if money is a concern, you can get the Glock for a lot less money as well.

Sig's crappy trigger reset length is enough alone to make me say glock.

I love shooting my dad's P226 Elite. Of course it has the short reset trigger (SRT) so I can't comment on a regular DA/SA model.

Loved the Sig's SA pull. Hated the Sig's DA pull.

    Hated the Glock's pull.

I love my 226. But it was also what felt best in my hand by a long shot. I have had numerous people shoot it and all have liked it. If they are both comfortable then just go with your gut. Both are great guns.

I spent a lot of time with G17's in a class....they were OK, but they don't fit my hand real well.
On the other hand, a Glock with a good trigger is a pretty good gun.
I don't have much experience with Sig triggers, but I do know that the grip tends to follow my hand's shape a little better.

Easily solved with an Elite or having the SRT put in.

Also, the DA pull of a Sig cleans up really really well even without sending it out to some high dollar smith. A little care and polishing by any smith can make them really nice and smooth.

I have both and I say go with the G17. But I'd go G19 over G17

I prefer my Sigs (226 and 225..haven't shot my sig pro yet) to the Glocks I've tried.
