I recently traded my Canon Rebel XSi + 150 bucks for a 40D. I am still on the fence about the quality of the pictures the 40D takes compared to the XSi. The XSi seemed to take must more crisp and sharp pictures than the 40D does.

Could there be something wrong with the 40D or am I just not doing something right with it? Shouldn't the 40D be much better than the XSi is?

I am currently at work but I will post some pictures taken with both cameras when I get home.

    Maybe its just me :(

Rocking the same lens on both cameras as far as your comparison goes? The 40D also has quite a bit more in the way of custom functions that may be affecting how your camera is capturing the images. may also be that you're noticing a difference in MP...

    40d has 10.1 mp, 450d 12.2mp... 40d has noticeably faster AF, 40d 6fps v 450d 3.5fps, remote control: both have N3 connector 450d has ifrared and 40d does not. Shutter speeds 40d 1/8000-30sec + bulb : 450d up to 1/4000-30sec + bulb, same processor (Digic 3), top flash sync: 40d 1/250th 450d 1/200th, Mirror action: 40d motor both ways (faster and quieter), 450d spring up motor down; Battery life w/ no flash 40d 1100 shots, 450d 600 shots.

Basicly there's a couple of small advantages that the 450 has over the 40d, some points where they stand on even footing, and quite a few where the 40d wins, particularly in build quality... here's my source

I used to have both. I now only have the 40D. IQ is the same until you get into the customization factor. Thats where the 40d wins. Both are 10.1 and carry the same CMOS sensor and processor.

For most static shots, camera body really doesn't make that much of a difference.
