Just sell your D80 and buy a 40d....

Attempting to find someone to trade is a pretty stupid idea.

Not to mention the equivalent of the 40d is the D300, which is a model up and model year newer than the D80...

But the D300 and 40D are both badass cameras. As is the D80 you currently have. So wherever you end up, you'll be in pretty good shape.

I'm suggesting that the difference between the body you have and the one you want is much smaller than you think. Your pictures will not be any better with your new body.

So unless you've identified some very specific feature that the 40D has that you must have, or just want to switch brands, you're wasting your time.

Not that the 40D isn't a great camera, it is.

    you are incorrect.

between comparible models of camera, Canon sensors are NOT cleaner than Nikons.

But if you want to switch brands, go ahead.

Oh, and please - post ONE shot you've taken with your D80 that was ruined because of too much noise, that you believe WOULD have been saved by Canons 'superior' sensors?

here we go again with the nikon iso is noiser than canon.

believe me, after you shoot a little bit more you'll realize it's all armchair photographers who start up those arguements.

if you truly want "less" noise, then save up for the d3.

I'm banking on the fact that you have some nikon glass, in which case it would be silly to switch brands.

Like any camera, the lens is often time more important then the body. Glass is sometimes everything.

Switching brands isn't going to help you. What kind of lens do you own? Is it Nikkor? Are you shooting at high ISO's?

I'm a professional photographer and have used both nikon and canon over the years (I started shooting on chrome). In the end I prefer Nikon.

Although Canon does do a better job at higher ISO. Nikon's 1000-1600 still isn't that bad.

Here are some quick shots with 100% crops on my D80. Ignore the white balance.

    ISO 1000:

I don't like going over 1250 ISO, but for me 1600 really isn't that bad.
