Taking my 350d to a night club tomorrow night, to photograph a bikini contest for my internship at the local paper. It's going to be dimly lit of course, with spot lights on the stage. Would this flash be helpful, or will the onboard flash work well enough? Thanks in advance.

I'm not knowledgeable enough with photography to answer your question, but why not bring both just incase?

how far away will you be? i'd use the speedlite over the onboard flash but if your distance is greater than 15-20 feet, it won't be very effective.

and if these are posing shots, use the flash and keep the shutter open a little longer than normal. makes for great club style photos.

with a flash, more power is always better.

my 550ex helped a lot taking pics of the girls on stage at Hot Import Nights.

onboard flash is pretty shitty, it's a little bit too close to the lens, too. an accessory flash will almost always be better than the onboard. the speedlite would help a lot. just get it and run some tests before you go there
