    The S series of the PowerShots have filled the gap between Point & Shoot and DSLR since they were introduced. They offer an incredible range of image stabilized focal lengths and a retarded macro mode that lets you literally touch the lens what you're trying to focus on. It offers nearly, if not all, of the same manual features DSLRs offer while still excelling in the full-auto mode.

    If you're not ready for a DSLR but want to learn about manual controls while still taking amazing out-of-the-bag shots, the Canon S line is for you.

    cut my teeth on an S1. I cannot recommend these cameras enough.

    they are like a DSLR lite, or 80% of a DSLR. Loved mine until it took a shit on me.

    damn the G9 looks awesome, if I was baller I'd get that for a 2nd camera when I didn't feel like lugging the 40D around :o

    I need a good backup camera, I can't really afford $450 right now though :embd:

    im still waiting for a d200 size sensor on a small camera with only 17.-50ish range Id seriously buy that.
