I've decided to ditch my Canon SD450 and go for a nicer Ultra Zoom camera.

I'm basically looking at the two and wondering if you guys could help me out.

    Canon S3 IS: http://www.dpreview.com/reviews/canons3is/

    Panasonic Lumix DMC-FZ8: http://www.dpreview.com/news/0701/07013106panasonicfz8.asp

The majority of my shots are indoor/occassionally outdoor of my daughter, but I'll go to events such as ALMS (American Le Mans) this past weekend, which actually prompted some change for a better camera. In addition, vacations, such as Yellowstone as well as cars (specifically my own) and the such will be common places I'd take pictures.

I've read the reviews and the two seem very similar.

I believe both can be had new for about $270 shipped, which seems like a great price.

Are they are accessories that you would deem "must haves."

    I have a 1GB SD and 512MBSD and that's about it.

Good bag, good tri/mono pod, etc? Good batteries?

    Help me out. :x:

Canon and look at Bogen/Manfrotto for a good tripod. Other than that just have fun with it.

Some good bag companies. Lowepro, ThinkTank, Crumpler, hmmm what else, help me out guys.

The Manfrotto Modo is a good tripod for the S3 for an FYI....good build and fairly cheap

    Wow, damn quick responses.

How important is a "premium" SD card? I have a high speed SD card and one regular Kingston.

UV lens required, or will I not really notice the difference (I'm trying to buy on a budget).

WIth point and shoots, I think no matter what card you get, the camera won't keep up with it.. no reason to go out and get an Extreme III or IV.

    It's just a guess though.

With those cameras you dont need a high speed SD card.

    Great responses everyone!

Are there any other good camera sites out there, specifically a "deal" site such as Dealnews (I've been following their camera section)?

Damn lot of FAQs on cameras I'll be reading up on.

Anyone in the market and want to buy my Canon SD450? :)

Since I have relatively no idea what any of the additional lenses do, nor will I most likely use them, can you give me a rough idea on the just the camera in the box (with cables, manual, etc).

    Thanks!

If the price is right I'm ready to buy ASAP, but of course, keep in mind the price of a new S3. i:wiggle: i
