Sent my camera into canon for repairs. :noes: Anything over 500 shutter speed came up all black. Anyone ever had this problem and know how much the repairs will cost? Sigh....

Sent in? Depending on where you are in SoCal, you could've just brought it in to them in Irvine :o

Uhh... You werent using the flash were you? If so then thats totally normal unless your in high speed sync mode. The "all black" is the camera literally capturing a photo of the shutters moving.

Actually faster than 1/250 you'll start to see the shutter and it would probably be all black by 1/500th.

"High speed sync" mode will allow shutter speeds up to 1/8000th on my 40D not sure what you have. I think rebels are up to 1/4000th if you have one of those.

15k clicks! Wasn't using flash! I live in the SFV didn't really feel like driving to Irvine but I should have!

$250? :wtc::wtc: Sigh... this is going to set me back from getting a 85 1.8.

Canon has flat rates for everything. Its divided up by what piece of equipment it is and how 'extensive' the repair is. I have the PDF of all their prices at work.

    What camera is it?

If it is NOT a Rebel, I would think a shutter replacement qualifies as an 'extensive' repair which would make it $232 according to their price list.

If it IS a Rebel, they only have a 'flat' rate and an 'extensive' rate. Between the two, I would think a shutter replacement falls under 'extensive' which would make it $280 according to their price list.

That is the estimate they are making me pay first before they touch the camera. Well that's what I assume. Don't know the details on what is wrong with it.
