Seems like there's quite a few powershot models. I'm getting one for the S/O for Christmas and I'm not really sure which one to get. Based on these at CC: http://www.circuitcity.com//ssm/Point-and-shoot/sem/rpsm/catOid/-13062/N/20013061+20016941+40000857+20013062/link/ref/rpem/ccd/categorylist.do?WT.mc_n=584507&WT.mc_t=U&cm_ven=PAID%20SEARCH&cm_cat=ADVERTISING.COM&cm_pla=CATEGORY%20-%20IMAGING-%3ECLASS%20-%20CAMERAS&cm_ite=3222%20PURCHASED%20KEYWORD%20-%20CANON%20POWERSHOT&cm_keycode=584507

I was looking at the SD1000 7.1 because it looks to be a smaller size then the A series with not much price difference.

Any suggestions from OT experts? thanks.

The SD850IS is a great camera. Small, decent zoom for size, image stabilization and it takes good images.

$250 compared to $190 for the SD1000 though. Is it that much better for just normal everyday pictures?

probably not, I know nothing about the sd1000 but canon p+s are usually the best in almost every price bracket, i'd feel fine buying almost any of them.

The SD1000 is a pretty good camera. It focuses well and is fast, which is the shittiest thing on alot of P&S cameras, even in higher price ranges. Decent enough quality, though high ISO is pretty shitty. They're all going to be pretty shitty at high ISO, though, so that's not a big deal either. I just recommended this camera to a couple of people, and they're all super happy with it.
