Sorry, this is like the third thread I've made asking about budget P&S cameras. Basically I want to spend around $250ish, want some manual features (i.e. aperature/shutter priority), and I'd like it to be somewhat compact. This is the best I could come up with for the price and I can get a black one for $251 from work. I looked at the S5 and it didn't look that much better and it's $50 more and a lot less compact. Is there anything Nikon or Sony makes that I should look at as well? Here's dpreview on it

I guess I'll just buy it. Only comparables I can find are the Sony H3 and the Panasonic TZ3 both of which I've held and neither of which I'm interested in.

All I can say is the S5 is worth it, it's DSLR-lite and the one you're looking at, while good, is a fat compact with some basic manual settings.

The only relevant differences I see are zoom (12x vs 10x), the S5 has a flash hotshoe, a slightly better LCD, and it takes more batteries so the flash probably cycles faster.

Other than that, what's the big deal?

    Didn't realize the X100 didn't have a viewfinder. That's pretty much a deal breaker for me. :sad2:

    Get the S5 or a G9.

If those are out of the price range, buy used or an S3is or a G6/7/8 (or whatever the old one was).

Better AF, closer macro focus, faster max shutter, faster aperture(esp when zoomed), slightly better fps.
