Damn dogs, your avatar is freakin weird... that's some freaky shiat, actually :p

I'd say go with teh coolpix because I'm madly in love with nikon. Beyond that, I don't know anything about the canon.

I'd personally go for an Olympus C-8080, but out of those two, I'd take the Nikon. The Pro1 image is noticably not as sharp as the Olympus or Nikon. Very disappointing considering Canon is marketing the lense as one of its "L" series.

Those Nikons from 2002-early 2003 did not have an AF illuminator assist. Those were crap and the reason why you had problems with its focusing. The 8700 has an AF assist on it.

    ....

    :ugh:

    ... :fawk:

lol. Seriously though, the smilies here rock. Get the nikon, because nikon is cool and there are like eleventy thousand accessory lenses (fisheye, filters, wide-angle stuff) that can go on the front :)

I dont belive i did. nikon 4300 to finepix s7000 zoom. I am happier with the newer camera, it does a better job for what i want it for and in my opinion its far better quality.

If I could get the Digital Rebel (300D I think) for $650 with the kit lens, should I do that instead?
