Hey guys, I will be getting a new Canon Digital Rebal XT in a few months, so I was wondering, I can get a great deal on E-Bay shown in the link below. but should I go with that, or somthing different?(as far as the lenses go, I dont care about the other stuff as much)

I will be using the camera mostly for the following:
1.Sports(hockey/baseball/football/Race cars, no specific kind, prolly F1 or Indi)
2.Nature(plants, animals at the zoo or in the wild)
3.Fishing trips with the old man
4.Cars (ones that are sitting still, like at a car show, but as said above, I will need it for fast moving also)
    5.Friends, Family

and thats about it for what im going to use it for most. So what do you suggest,

    This: http://cgi.ebay.com/Canon-EOS-Digit...yZ107909QQssPageNameZWDVWQQrdZ1QQcmdZViewItem

    OR somthing else?

All help and advice would be greatly appriciated.
    Thanks,
    Mike

Well this will be my first DSLR, but not my first camera... I have an old SLR film camera, made by camera, it's a Canon A1, so I have at least a bit of experience.

So with a bit of time, Yes, I am.

you can find better packages from much more reputable companies and get the components you want for less. check out cameta camera and look for a package that only has the two lenses you're looking for and maybe a case and that is it. don't get one with those piece of crap memory cards, "pro" aluminum case, crappy tripod or cleaning kits.

    You didn't give a budget...

    In that case, spring for the 400/2.8, 300/2.8, 200/1.8, 135/f2, 85/1.2II, 50/1.2(lol) 35/1.4, 16-35 2.8, and maybe toss in a 24-70/2.8,70-200/2.8IS and a 100-400/4.5-5.6 just for good measure.

Which do you think you'll value more, telephoto or wide angle shots?

If you favor telephoto get a used 70-200 f4 and the kit lens.

If you favor WA (but not UWA) get the Tamron 17-50 2.8, and the shitty 75-300 fslow - fslower. The 75-300 is a real piece of shit, but it will get you to 300mm. The IS version is a bit sharper, and of course has IS, but it's out of your budget.

In fact, the kit lens and 70-200 combo is out of your budget, but you should consider it anyway.

I guess you could also consider one of Canon's nameless XX-XXX focal length lenses, like 24-135, I don't really know the focal lengths of any of those lines.

You're better off buying the body from b&h and a nice lens, those ebay auctions aren't that great

I used to think this too but there are very reputable companies on there that sell decent stuff. I purchased my d200 with grip and extra battery on there from Cameta camera and saved quite a bit of money. Everything came in just as I expected, brand new and working great.

I do see quite a few packages, like the one listed above, that are pure crap but if he can find one that just sells the body and lens with maybe a second lens, im sure he can get a great deal.

If you don't know what lens to get, I highly suggest you try them before you buy them. Yes, it costs you money, but then at least you don't end up with something you paid 1k+ for idly sitting in your closet.

www.borrowlenses.com Shameless plug, since I own this place. There are other renters out there though.

How can you lose with that for $75? I love mine. I guess you could go for the 1.4L if money was no object. But FTL? Not really.

Best advice I heard here was that the body will get you the features you want, but the glass will get you the sharpness and quality you want. Youre spending ~$600 on a body, dont spend $100 on a shitty lens.

its AF is awful, manual focusing it is a bitch, its not that sharp, if it hits a dust bunny it breaks in half, plastic lens mount . . .
