Somebody just recommended it for me.

Is it worth it even though I already have the one that came with the Rebel XT body?

played with one today...very sharp (at least considering the price) but the onle reason i will be picking one up is the shallow DOF.

yucky..... AF accuracy is an issue and and dont bother trying to use it in low light. It hunts like no other...

    wat

did you say that because i said it was sharp "considering the price?" I know its pretty sharp at f/8 / f/11...i have other lenses to use if i want a sharp photo, like i said...i would only pick this one up for the DOF.

my first one broke in half, but I bought another one. at 80 bucks a pop, you don't lose any sleep plus it helps you keep a low profile.

i have one, i almost never use it. i dont really like it. it feels cheap and the auto focus sounds like its trying to suicide.

noisy focus, shitty in low light. build quality is like a 2 dollar whore, bokeh is meh.

but its pretty damn sharp around f/4 and above. works great in good light.

How does that compare with the lens kit I got with my Rebel XT?

    It's about a 6.5-7 to your kit lens being about a 3.

It's a gigantic piece of shit unless you're using a tripod and pointing it at the sun.

If you're a noob on a budget you should have this lens.

anyone need one? I'll sell mine, $60 shipped to usa. Hardly used. like yardsale, I had one, dropped it and it broke. Went and got another but realized I hated it and never use it.

Its nice and cheap anyway, sharp for the money, but mostly only if you stop it down a bit. The 1.4 is a far superior lens, but thats why it costs like 5x more.

Just save up some more money and get the 1.4. If youre hurting for a lens, I suppose its ok, but I detest mine and wish Id gotten the 1.4 ages ago.

i have one i use pretty frequently. but it was either that or the kit lens for a long time, and its leaps and bounds above the kit lens. i typically stop mine down to 2.8 or so and it works great.

can't go wrong for 80 bucks. Its awesome for product photography when you are able to heavily control the lighting.
