f4 is pretty limited indoors without a flash. Other than that, this is a great lens. One of the best "bargain" L's around.

I rented this lens before deciding on the 17-55 as the 17-40 was a contender for me. It was a very good lens but I used it mostly outdoors. not sure about low light though. but I can tell you that even at night as the sun was going down it would focus super fast and accurately. I just wanted teh additional features the 17-55 had. oh and if you are a big "build quality" guy, this lens is very solid also. I suggest renting it to see what you think

Every wide picture you see on my website/flickr are with this lens. It's great for the price.

You mean the 16-35L? The tokina is great, I have it also. It will only work above 13mm on full frame cameras though.

I use it on my 1D. Works great, and if I'm shooting in low light I just pop the 580 on if needed.
