Ordered a new Canon 50D and intend to start getting more into the DSLR scene. I know a little about photography and really looking for advice on glass. I shoot a varying degree from wildlife, landscapes, outdoor sports, and portrait. I'm looking for an outstanding tele and good wide-angle lens. The camera comes with the stand 28-135 kit lens but read reviews how shitty it is. OT Canon crew what are you using?

    70-200 F4, F4 IS, F2.8 or F2.8 IS.

I have the F4 IS and love it.

I've heard good things about the 17-55 F2.8 IS for a wide angle. I am still using the 17-85 IS that came with the camera.

    get:

17-50 2.8 Tamron (or 17-55 2.8 IS canon, if you are baller)
70-200 F4 L canon (or 2.8 IS canon, if you are truly OT baller status worthy)
    canon 50mm 1.4

that should set you up for a good time...:mamoru:

I had the 70-200 2.8 IS and traded it for the F4 IS and cash. I have been mush happier since. unless you are shooting indoor sports or weddings in big places,it is just a big pain in the ass. I love my 70-20 f4 IS.

    right. :greddy:

the TS asked about lenses for his newly purchased 50D. Having recently gone thru this exercise of reading/learning/researching what lenses are probably the best to start with on a 30/40/50D body, I posted some suggestions.

your dumbass comes out of nowhere with your usual faggotry, ridiculing me because of my "lack of experience" per se..... and yet, somehow I'm the e-thug?:rofl:

    fucking brilliant, I swear :bowrofl:

don't listen to this fucking noob...

but srsly that pretty much what i was gonna say.

imo the perfect lens setup for a semi-pro/enthusiast would be (considering you shoot canon):

    10-22mm (Canon, or 11-16 tokina)
    17-55mm 2.8 (Canon, or 17-50 tamron)
70-200 f/4 is (Canon, or f/2.8 IS if you're ballin deep son)
    50mm f/1.4

that would cover all your usual ranges and get you nice, sharp photos with all those said lenses.

it might get expensive...but keep in mind that glass hardly depreciates at all. you could have this equipment for 2-3 years and if you take care of it...you could sell it for a 10-20% loss which is NOTHING imo
