    Terrible choice.
    Should've gotten a ~30mm lens instead.

def a lens that every photographer should have in his/her bag. Especially for the price. You'll get incredible color out of it.

    50mm f1.8 is a piece of shit.

    50mm f1.4 is a far better purchase.

    No.

It's a shit lens for any price. It has a slow, clumsy and innacurate focussing motor. I could buy one for $1, and it would still be shit.

Shit is still shit, even if it's cheap shit.

:ugh:, a 50mm is less desierable as a "normal" lens on a cropped body, but to say its a terrible focal length is just retarded.

    You're right.
To me, it's kind of useless. 50mm on a 1.6x body it's either too long, or not long enough. I only use it because it's the only fast lens I own. I'd switch to something like Sigma's 30mm f/1.4 or 20mm f/1.8 in an instant.
And the lens is really god optically, and fantastic when you consider its price, but I'd simoly prefer something wider instead. I wish I'd known this when I ordered it.

I have it, but I haven't used it in a long time.

I think the last time I used it was on my 300D taking pictures at an aquarium in Japan (where it was very dark, but 50mm was a pretty good focal length).

Because I can get a cleaner ISO 1600 on my 30D when I went to the GA aquarium, I just used my 28-75 2.8 and I was fine. This lens would still be my choice if I were doing a "studio" shot though. Stepped down, it's the sharpest lens (only prime) in my bag.

Makes a good paperweight once you have better lenses.

I have a 20mm canon, it's pretty god for a wide angle lens but I usually only have it on the camera for a few minutes then I always find myself switching to something with some zoom capabilities. Primes don't really do me any good unless I'm shooting still subjects which is like never so I prefer something with alittle more flexability. Especially if you're just starting out. But I guess for the price it's ok. At least you have another lens so you can fill up your bag. :hs:
