A&P Canon - as a company - is starting to piss me off.

They are really leaving their products in the market for WAY too long:

So, the 30D is going on two years old, and it's based on a design that goes back to the 10D? :ugh: 5 year old design FTL. Sure, most of it is just fine, but that chalkboard eraser vertical grip is seriously :ugh::rofl::squint:

And the 5D is in the same basic body design, and it's going on over two years in the market. Honestly, I can understand the pro bodies not being refreshed very often, and the consumer cameras being refreshed much more often, but it really seems like they are simply neglecting the 30D/5D design.

    Lazy ass bastards.

I agree. 30D / 5D are due for a refresh, more features etc. but the design of the body is no big deal is it?

The vertical grip is fucking retarded, the batteries SUCK, and not having at least some weather sealing on this level of body (particularly the 5D) is just stupid.

I know I'm a whiny little faggot for posting this, but Canon design engineers are just damn lazy. The vertical grip and AF system are really what pisses me off the most. They should have done something similar to the EOS 3 / EOS 1V grip design for the 5D, and by now the AF should have both more total focus points and more cross type focus points.

I'm really not looking for more "features". Frankly, take the 5D's guts (as-is) and put them in an EOS 3 type body with 1DMIIn AF, weather seal it, and call it a day. Would that REALLY be expecting too much of a $2500 camera? :hs:

I'm not looking for live view, a dust shaker, dual DiGiC, 10fps, an 11ty9 frame buffer, or Zeus mode.

    bah. I'm measurebating. :ugh:

i dont think there really is a need for a change. unless your a pro you dont really need more than 8 mp. also, the features on the 10/20/30d are only slightly better than my 7 year old elan 7.

im actually wondering how many more pixels they can fit in those tiny APS-C sensors before the quality starts to suffer.

just my two cents....and before you say it, i dont have an av so my opinion doesnt matter.

I'm not talking about more megapickles at all. :ugh:

I think the 5D sensor is fantastic. They should just concentrate on making it less expensive to produce, not pack more crap onto it. If I'm honest, I'd actually prefer APS-H size sensors anyway, fool frame is nice, but not really necessary for most advanced amateurs. But there's little chance that Canon would put an APS-H sensor in a lower end (under $2000) camera.

Like I said though, the ergonomics were better on some of their 10+ year old film bodies, and the keeping the 20D style AF system in a FF camera is just a bad joke at this point.

To be blunt, my specific gripes are physical design (would prefer something physically closer to the EOS 1V) and the AF system.

lol, it probably cant be helped anymore. i do agree with your view on the grips. sadly, a good vertical grip is one of the reasons im holding out for either a 1v film or a used 1dsII or a 1dIIn

i agree, my 7 year old canon is way more comfortable [and way lighter] than my 30 yr old nikon, and i prefer the 5d over my elan [though the grip on my elan is a little better than the piece of shit they sell for the 5d].

i agree that making it closer in comfort to the 1v would be nice. though i have never held it, the 1v HS look damn comfy. just wish it wasnt $2000!

imagine needing a fast frame rate and being limited to a d2h, from summer 03 :hs:

I agree that they need to get their act together, but I'd rather it be a full update (like the markIII) than just another N version again or more MP thrown in the same camera
