I had my eye on the 70-200 for some time now but after doing some research the 200 prime looks really nice too, its faster, lighter, and not white :hs: Is it a big deal that it doesn't have IS? I would probably be mostly shooting nature/wildlife with this lens. I also considered the 135L + 1.4TC...I'm so torn :o

wildlife, 300 4.0L and 1.4TC if you're on a budget. 200 won't have enough reach for most skittish wildlife unless you're a ninja.

    id go for the prime

though personally i have a thing for f/2.8 or faster. i rarely shoot the 70-200 on anything other than wide open at f/2.8!

but yea, either the 200 or go for the 300 f/4 light and nice DOF [lol lighter compaired to the 2.8 at least]

I just went from the 70-200F4L non-IS to the 100-400L

I absolutely loved it, I only got a new lens because I wanted a little more zoom

that said, get the 70-200 F2.8 IS if you can afford it, you can put a 1.4 on it and get 98-200F4 or a 2x and have 140-400F5.6

The 70-200 f2.8 is a beast...when I borrowed my friends sigma 70-200 more than half my shots were at 200mm and I found myself wanting more reach

how do you like the 100-400 so far? I considered that one too

I absolutely love it, not quite as sharp as the 70-200F4L but you'll only notice if you pixel peep, and it more then makes up for it with IS and the reach it has

push/pull was weird at first but after shooting a hockey game I got used to it and now it feels natural

I think I'm going to wait and eventually get the 300 prime...I'll probably just stick with the 70-200 + TC for now :hs:
