    Canon 40D 10.1MP 3.0"
    EF 28-135mm f/3.5-5.6

    $1400

The only reason I want to get the canon because I already had Rebel XTi, and my cousin who is professional photographer uses all canons, so I could barrow lenses and he would be able to help me out.

On other hand Nikon has a great deal :hs:
To be honest, it never crossed my mind to get Nikon until this came up. Is it a good deal?

    Nikon D80 10.2MP 2.5"
    18-135mm f/3.5-5.6G
    70-300mm VR Zoom f/4.5-5.6G w/IS

    $1500

wow, I'm a nikon user but you should go canon just for the fact you can borrow lenses. If he's a pro, he should have some  ones

I'd stick with Canon too however if you're patient you'll find some better prices that that, especially on Craigslist.

I just got a great deal. I bought a XT about 2 years ago, it was used moderately. My work has shitty point and shoot cameras, so they asked me all the time to bring in my camera. They asked me so often, they thought the camera belonged to the company, not me.

My boss knew it was my camera, so they offered to buy it off me @ full price I paid. 999.99 + tax two years ago.

So, I stopped in at best buy on the way home from work, and picked up a 40D. I've really only had it for about 18 hours, but I already like it way more then my XT, and I loved that camera.

you can find a better deal than that on the 40D... I've seen them going for 950-1000 on FM for the body only. And if you already have a XTi you don't need that shitty lens that comes with that kit.

resolution on those two bodies isn't that different... Despite what these two Canon sackriding douches will try and tell you.

With that said, Your availability to pro quality lenses is the deal breaker here. Stick with the Canon.

I don't regret buying my 40D one bit. Plus, I can not stand the way Nikons function. Everything is reversed.

personal preference is a huge part of buying a camera. I agree with how you made your decision, but am on the opposite side of the fence.

    Oh yes, really cool ones.

I think i will stick with Canon. I already have a Nikon binocular, if that means anything (directed toward Nikon lovers :coolugh:)

I will get the 40D for now, thanks for the comments guys. I will just get with a lens it comes for now.

I heard a new version of 5D is coming out, does anyone have any info on it?

According to Canon "offical sources" there are no new plans to upgrade the 5D yet....or so I've heard.

The 40d is over a year newer (IIRC) than the D80 - that right there should be the deal breaker alone.

The Sony Alpha is over a year newer than the 5d.

    Therefore, by acab's logic, Alpha > 5d.

im really starting to lose respect for you because saying the d80 sucks donkey balls is fucking stupid. I really wish there was a ban rule for extreme sackriding

I agree...being a nikon user myself, i'd go with the Canon just for that reason alone. I still think you need to shoot with both of them since you may not always have this luxury but hey, that's your decision.

if we left his response like this, i'd highly advise the OP to search for a better response because for one, the 18-135 isn't a great lens but it is NOT a horrible lens. The 70-300 VR is also not a horrible lens either and is quite capable. Granted, it isn't a 70-200 f/4 like what Canon has but it is a very nice and definitely capable lens.

we feel the same way about Canons...small wheel up top, large wheel in different direction in back, most lenses zoom opposite a Nikon, etc. :dunno:, it's all preference
