Report: Ricardo Almeida vs. Kendall Grove in the works for UFC 101 by MMAjunkie.com Staff on Apr 08, 2009 at 6:40 pm ET While still not yet officially announced by the organization, the card for August's UFC 101 card is quickly filling. According to a report from Fight Hype.com, UFC middleweights Ricardo Almeida (10-3 MMA, 3-3 UFC) and Kendall Grove (10-5 MMA, 5-2 UFC) have verbally agreed to meet at the event. UFC 101 is expected to take place Aug. 8 at the Wachovia Center in Philadelphia, headlined by a lightweight title fight between current champ B.J. Penn and challenger Kenny Florian. Almeida fought earlier this month at UFC Fight Night 18 in a unanimous decision win over Matt Horwich. Following the bout, Almeida told UFC.com he was eyeing a drop to welterweight. "I'd like to let it be known on the UFC website (that) my plans are to drop to 170 pounds," Almeida said. "My team has been saying that I'm too small to fight these big guys at 185 (pounds)." Almeida has apparently put those plans on hold. Grove is currently riding a two-fight win streak after previously dropping two-straight bouts to Jorge Rivera and Patrick Cote. The former "The Ultimate Fighter 3" champion's losses came in the first round to both Jorge Rivera and Patrick Cote and had many questioning whether "Da Spyda" would remain in the UFC's middleweight division. Grove's wins over Jason Day in March and Evan Tanner in June 2008 have once again secured his position in the division.
